The challenge was to design a single family speculative home in the Heights area of Houston, about five miles from the
central business district. The solution consists of living areas with two-story ceiling heights, a third floor balcony loft
overlooking other areas below, and large patio/balcony areas that connect the home with the outdoors. The 2,700 square
foot home will have four bedrooms or three with a study, an unusual number for a home this size. The plan maximizes
space efficiency by placing the circulation core/stairs between living and dining/kitchen areas. Exterior materials blend
with the neighborhood and glass openings take advantage of passive solar energy. Site-specific elements such as
existing trees and street views dictate the overall design. (See specifications for additional information.)
